New Watches: Omega Seamaster 300 Bronze

The latest variant on the Omega Seamaster is the 300 Bronze, which combines classic styling with the gradual patina of bronze alloy and the weathered look that emerges over time. Here’s the press info;

Omega first introduced the Seamaster 300 in 1957 – designed especially for divers and professionals who worked underwater. More than 60 years later, the collection has been completely upgraded, and includes this special model created in Omega’s own bronze alloy.

The 41 mm case and bezel are crafted from 9K Bronze Gold, while the brown ceramic bezel ring includes a diving scale in vintage Super-LumiNova. On the bronze dial, you’ll find recessed hour markers and open numerals with Super-LumiNova, as well as PVD Bronze Gold coloured hands. Presented on a brown leather strap with a 9K Bronze Gold buckle, this timepiece includes a transparent sapphire crystal caseback, enabling a clear view of the Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8912.

Just stunning jewelling on this movement, has to be said.

Kickstarter: STROND DC-3 Pilot is a Top Value 1930s Homage

We checked out the STROND DC-3 pilot watch on Kickstarter and liked what we saw. Powered by the trusty Seiko NH35 movement, with a sapphire crystal, see-thru caseback and chunky leather strap – or canvas option – this is a vintage style pilot watch, that captures the 1930s era of international flight.

With a 42mm case this is a mid-sized automatic that you can wear every day. Choice of black or cream coloured dial. Delivery is expected in November 2020, and prices start at just £249 which is very good value we think.

Updated 15.12.2020; The watch is now available for delivery from the Strond website, but the price is now £369

We love the onion crown and hands featuring a little splash of red near the tip. It is a really good looking watch for the money and no, we ain’t on commission!

Spinnaker Bradner Offers Nice Divers Style & Spec for The Money

Spinnaker are one of the most interesting micro brands out there right now, with a new range of watches due to commence shipping at the end of June. The Bradner models have Seiko auto movements, featuring a 41 hour power reserve, 180m depth resistance, 42mm case size, plus see-thru caseback.

You can wind these up too, like the more modern Seiko autos – no shake required!

Spinnaker say the Bradner also features a liberal application of Swiss Super-LumiNova while the dial also holds an applied minute marker ring and a square-shaped index that matches the baton-shaped hands. The blue dial model, which has a graduated effect so it seems to change shade slightly depending on the viewing angle, is our fave – other colours are available.

Two crowns sit at the 2 o’clock and 4 o’clock positions, operating time adjustment and bezel setting respectively. Sapphire crystal, 20mm lugs offers wide choice on straps, 2 year guarantee.

Good value for $285 we think, makes a nice wearable watch that you can use and enjoy, perfect budget alternative to a Seiko Prospex, Baltic Aquascaphe – both of which cost a fair bit more than the Spinnaker. Even the top value Orient Mako 2, which we have spotted for £220 on ebay, is facing strong competition from Spinnaker when it comes to sports diver watch value for money.
