Watches and Wonders: Frederique Constant Goes For Gold

Forget everything we said about FC being an entry level brand, because the Citizen owned Swiss brand just produced an 18K gold case tourbillon which is beautifully finished. Now this is a bold move, since it doesn’t say Breguet, Arnold & Son, Lange & Sohne etc on the dial, so it’s priced a bit cheaper, but still £22,995 is kinda tasty for an FC watch.

The new tourbillon is to celebrate 35 years of production by FC and is limited to just 150 pieces.

Here’s the word;

“The new Classic Tourbillon Manufacture therefore honours the finest traditions of watchmaking art right down to the very last detail. The case is made from 18K rose gold, a precious metal that has always been reserved solely for Manufacture limited editions. This model will be no exception: just 150 watches will be made, each one individually numbered. Previously offered in a 42mm diameter, all Classic Manufacture timepieces will now be housed in a 39mm case in a new style featuring modern, harmonious curves, for maximum comfort on the wrist.”

It’s an impressive statement from FC and they have definitely raised their game here. Whether they can step up to the big league brands like Omega, Breitling, Rolex, Patek etc in terms of prestige and desirability amongst collectors, is another matter.
