Coming Soon: Yema Rallye 5Turbo

The Renault 5 turbo was one of the most successful smaller rally cars of its era. There was also a road legal version, which was one of the first hot hatch models of the 1980s, arguably the most exciting time to drive sports cars in Europe as a combination of speed, light weight and sharp handling made cars like the VW GTi, Ford Fiesta XR2, Peugot 205 GTi and, for those with fat wallets, the Lancia Delta Integrale, all made their mark on UK roads.

Yema are paying tribute to the Renault T GT Turbo9 of course and as a French watch brand you expect a stylish retro number.

Dial is asphalt black, the perforated leather strap is rally style, naturally. Case size is 39mm and the crystal is double dome sapphire. The pushers are classic piston crown items too. The sub dials are segmented, with a seconds and minutes counter side by side. The seconds is actually a kind of crosshair sights design, which is a nice touch.

Inside you will find a Valjoux 7753 automatic chronograph movement, which has its roots going back decades, yet remains an accurate modern day timekeeper. Relatively easy to find an independent watchmaker who can service the Valjoux when you need it too.

This Yema 5Turbo is a limited edition of 300 units and retails at $2190 when it goes on sale later in March.
