Bell+Ross are well known for their aviation style watches of course, but they also create lots of variations on that square case theme. Like this skull logo skeleton model, dubbed Cyber Skull Bronze it re-imagines a Skull model from the BR archives and adds that bronze twist.
They’ve gone full Johnny Depp for the marketing campaign, with guitars, amps and silver rings etc. which is all good. If a skull watch can’t tap into rock’s obsession with death from Alice Cooper’s early 70s stage execution phase, to the chaotic, fragile life of Cobain, then what can? The Bell+Ross Cyber Skull is also a nod to the Victorian Memento Mori pocket watches, which were created to remind the wearer not to waste time, we are all on a countdown to somewhere else.
Featuring an in-house Cal 210 BR movement, we love the way the escape wheel forms the brain of the skull, visible from the front of the watch. The rea case is see-thru so you can admire the delicate movement in detail. It’s just 13.7mm high, which is pretty slim considering they have squeezed in a skull face along with the movement and hands.
Set on a black strap this one is limited to just 500 pieces and retails at £10,300. We like the bronze case which will age like fine whisky, but the downside is the 10K price tag. It will be a very long time before used values catch up to the retail price on this novelty item.
