The TAG Carrera is a classic chrono design and it’s nice to see different dial colours apart from the usual black or blue.
Why not make a white one for Christmas? That’s what the collab gurus at Watches of Switzerland thought and we agree, it looks sharp. That bold white dial, with black sub-dials and markers has a real Penguin classic, book cover simplicity about it. The reversed out date window is a nice detail too.
It comes on either bracelet or strap and we say pay the extra £100 for a steel bracelet. You can always get an aftermarket leather strap to save the steel bracelet for special occasions.
You get a see-thru caseback, plus the number of the watch and the WOS logo are on there, so you know it’s a limited edition. More collectable in the future? Maybe. You can never predict which watches go in, or out, of fashion in 5 years’ time.
These are limited to 125 examples of each and the steel bracelet option is £5350. That is a steep price when you look at typical Carrera resale values with black or blue dial chronos starting at about £2400 online and three grand getting you a minter.
Other white dial options at this price level have to include a Grand Seiko Spring Drive ( great investment) or maybe a pre-owned Omega Speedmaster Racing. We spotted a nice one on Chrono24 at £5750 negotiable. You won’t lose much money with a pre-owned Omega that has full box and papers, card etc. The gamble with the new TAG is that you end up dropping 2K in two years, as some see it as a lesser watch compared to the Omega Speedy.
Anyways, more WOS goodness here.
