The Camden Watch Company, based in London naturally, are launching their first new case design in 5 years on Kick. With a choice of quartz or Swiss auto movements this dress watch is well worth a look. Here’s the word;
“We are launching our first new watch case in over five years, and it’s a doozy. Our first Swiss Made edition, available in either a quartz (battery powered) or an automatic (kinetic) edition, featuring Italian leather, sapphire crystal and an intricate and detailed dial design.”
The case is designed to be unisex at 38mm across and the dial colours offer something for everyone too, as you’d expect from uber-inclusive Camden Town.
Movements? It’s stalwart Ronda quartz and Sellita;
“Although we currently use some Swiss made movements in our collection, this is our first Swiss made watch, and we couldn’t be more excited. The quartz edition will use a Ronda, and the automatic will house a Sellita movement, harking from the town of La Chaux-de-Fonds, the very town where co-founder Jerome was born.”
Sapphire crystal, range of straps and a 12 month guarantee. Hmm, on a Swiss powered watch we would expect two years minimum. The project is fully funded. If it hits £35,000 there will be some limited editions available too.
The Kickstarter deals begin at £640 on the Sellita automatic.
Verdict: We love the pocket watch vibe on the chamfered round bezel and swirling pattern on the dial. Memento Mori variant is another nod to the Victorian pocket watch heritage. Downside is price, at £640 there are plenty of cheaper Sellita powered Indie watches out there.
