JLC Celebrates Handcrafted Japanese Art

The Japanese pursuit of perfection is well known to anyone and its a design philosophy which underpins Grand Seiko of course. But Jaeger leCoultre have a limited run of 10 pieces, featuring an beautiful enamel painting, (you can’t call it less than that) on the Reverso watch dial.

The Reverso is a classic JLC design which allows the wearer to flip the dial plate over, thus revealing a second dial face. Kind of an early GMT device that works in a modest case diameter.

Here’s the word on this 10-pieces special.

“In its latest homage to art, Jaeger-LeCoultre introduces a limited edition of 10 pieces, the Reverso Tribute Enamel Hokusai ‘Amida Falls’, honouring the work of the 19th-century Japanese master, Katsushika Hokusai. The case-back of the new timepiece is decorated with a hand-enamelled miniature reproduction of The Amida Falls in the Far Reaches of the Kisokaidō Road (Kisoji no oku Amida-ga-taki), the best known work from A Tour of Waterfalls in Various Provinces (Shokoku taki meguri), a series of eight woodblock prints created by the artist in 1833–34.”

There’s no word on price but we will take a guess at $50,000 apiece.
