The H Samuel summer watch is on right now and it is worth a look, especially if you like mainstream fashion brands, plus Seiko and Citizen. In fact I liked a Citizen chronograph so much I bought it.

At £90 down from £299 originally, it was hard to resist. The Eco-Drive cell is typically good for about 10-12 years before losing its power and the 40mm size is perfect for my wrist too. Easy job removing two links, the bracelet clasp has one extra adjustment position for a perfect fit too, you just tease the pin across to the next set of holes.

Like the contrasting grey/burgundy sub-dials, but the date window at 4 o’clock could be slightly bigger. Otherwise a perfect everyday watch with a five year – yes 5 – guarantee from Citizen.

Fact is, you don’t often see Eco-Drive Citizen chronos under £100 brand new anywhere in the UK, so getting this 40mm wide, black dial, with gold tone pushers beauty was a definite result.
