Ball are always refining and tweaking their models. The latest Engineer Moon II has the gas tube lume you expect, plus new ice blue or silver metallic dial options.

The ice blue is the winner for us and the price isn’t too bad at £1810. Rivals for us include the Frederique Constant Moonphase models, which start at about £700, going to 2K for the full monty, all-features variants.

Then there is always the Longines Master Moonphase which is circa 2K, or the Oris Artelier, which we spotted online at £1550.
