Mido Multifort Patrimony Has That Vintage Valjoux Feel

One of the best chronograph engines of the 50s and 60s was the Valjoux 7733/34 series, which went inside all knds of Swiss watches. With big pushers on the case and maybe a motorsport themed panda dial, it was THE watch to have back in the days of John Player Special Lotus F1 cars and Marlboro McLarens.

This Mido Multifort has that same vibe. Trumpet style, flat top pushers, a rose gold case on the blue dial variant, plus those two sub-dials. Lovely bold date window at 6 o’clock as well.

Inside there is a 60-hour reserve auto movement, which looks remarkably similar to the 27 jewel movement inside the Hamilton Intra-Matic chrono watches. Mido is part of Swatch, so it could be the same base calibre, which is ultimately derived from the old Valjoux 7753. Small world indeed.

There are white and black dial variations too, and the price is £1700 for the rose gold versions, and £1610 for the black dial steel case model.
