Frederique Constant continue to expand their Highlife model range with a COSC certified automatic, priced at just over £1500. Featuring an in-house Cal.FC303 26 jewel movement, it’s a classic, elegant gents watch, with the globe map effect on the dial. We reckon it has that jet age vibe from the 60s and that’s no bad thing. White/Silver or blue dial options.
With a 41mm case size it’s a nicely scaled piece, that is perfect for everyday wear. Anti-glare sapphire crystal, plus quick-change strap feature as well. Handy date window at 3pm and we love that chuky winding crown. It’s a realistic size for actual winding of the watch and many manufacturers seem to forget this practical touch.
One big problem for collectors is the Frederique Constant name of course. Owned by Citizen, it just isn’t viewed as a true prestige brand like Rolex, Breitling, JLC, Omega, Zenith, Cartier, TAG, AP, Patek and many more. The entry price is relatively cheap, but we think that spending £1500 is better invested in other brand names, assuming you have one eye on resale at some point. If you just love that classic international man-about-town watch styling and COSC precision, and want to keep it forever, then fine – the FC Highlife is waiting for you.
